A BRIEF HISTORY OF
THE MK IV 1976 -
The Mk IV was launched in the autumn of 1976 and although it had a new body shell, much of its’ engineering, chassis and running gear, was all carried forward from the Mk111.
the Mk IV was available as s 2 door, 4 door or estate, and had 4 different engines, again with the choice of manual or automatic transmissions, with the cheapest MkIV being the 1.3 litre costing £2045.00 new.
Exactly one year later, in the autumn of 1977 ford introduced the new 2.3 litre engine V6 108 bhp engined version and was on sale in the showrooms with a price tag ranging from £3452.00 to £4795.00 depending on the version purchased.
In 1977 there were 19 models, 3 body styles, 4 engines and 5 trim/equipment packs to choose from across the Cortina range, with prices starting from £2523.00.
The MkIV was now soon to be replaced by the ‘Cortina 80’
As far as can be ascertained, approx 600,000 MkIV’s were made during its three year production run.
